Showcase: 3D Application for Digital Dental Impressions

In collaboration with our partner CONZE Informatik GmbH, we implemented an HMI for a 3D application for digital dental impressions in just two days, with Conze leading the design. This project has demonstrated how quickly and cost-effectively HMIs for medical technology can be developed using Incari Studio.

CONZE showcased our demo in November 2024 at the MEDICA Trade Fair. The demo ran on an Apalis iMX8QM provided by Toradex. Thanks to the Low-Code approach and powerful 3D capabilities of Incari Studio, the precise and efficient visualization of intricate dental structures was made possible.

Efficient Digitalization of Dental Impressions

The process of capturing a human jaw for dental purposes and transferring individual teeth for further processing in a CAD system involves several technical steps, with the HMI playing a central role. In our joint demo project with CONZE, we implemented this process in just two days.

The process begins with a 3D scan of the patient’s lower or upper jaw. The scan is transferred as a digital 3D asset into the HMI system, made possible by the powerful 3D engine of Incari Studio. The 3D scan is then displayed on the device monitor, with hardware support provided by Toradex.

Thanks to Incari’s 3D-first approach, the scan can be viewed and examined from different perspectives. Individual teeth can be selected and isolated with a mouse click. A commenting feature allows insights gained during the examination to be saved. The selected tooth can then be transferred to the CAD system for further processing.

The HMI plays a critical role in this process:

  • It serves as the interface between the dental technician and complex technical systems.
  • It visualizes the 3D data in an intuitive and understandable form.
  • It provides tools for segmenting the 3D data.
  • It coordinates data exchange between systems such as the 3D scanner, HMI software, and CAD system.
  • It offers a user-friendly interface that enables dental technicians to perform complex technical tasks without extensive IT knowledge.

By using Incari Studio as the HMI development platform, this process can be optimized and accelerated, resulting in a more efficient workflow in digital dentistry. Incari Studio is the ideal tool for complex applications where precision and reliability are paramount. With Conze’s intuitive design, the application is user-friendly for dental technicians, allowing immediate implementation into daily workflows with minimal training.

Thank you to our partner Conze for the excellent collaboration.

We look forward to more exciting projects in the future.
